sheffield based john shima joins the diametric. family. after a series of digital releases in the last years it is a tremendous pleasure to release the very first vinyl 12 inch of john on diametric. his music could be easily described as the logical progression of the legacy of famous uk acts such as b12, stasis or nuron, but that would be only half the story really. john mixes very emotional and deep techno with intrinsic and delicate rhythmic structures, in parts even harsh sounding bitcrushed percussions, and idm influences together to his very own special blend. now we can already hear the stupid comments from the haters saying that his music doesnt sound new and like the next big hype but the simple answer is: even if so, who gives a f#ck? it is great electronic music and diametric. certainly hopes you enjoy this record and are blown away like us.300 handnumbered limited vinyl copies only. no digital distribution.

wraetlic is a tense, at-times terrifying look into the realm of electronic music that is rarely touched by the likes of techno producers. to hear the uncompromising sounds on this record makes one wonder what else is in store for alex smoke, a challenging album but truly a gem in its expansiveness. knox is the band brainchild of brother-sister duo nic and eliza coolidge. hailing from boston and new york, the siblings released their second ep, here, on december 3rd, and it is a big step forward for the band. formed less than two years ago, in march 2011, knox finds themselves working with the likes of john tejada and kuxxan suum on this release, and the outcome is stunning. here is five-song set full of ice and echoes. it runs as close to the third rail of impersonation, but flies away so quickly that knox sounds contextual and perfectly fresh. the influences from james blake is clear: the swooping, bomber bass and half-timey compressed dub beats, here could also easily be an inventive b-side to the latest how to dress well album. but, with the limited scale, interspersed remixes and foundling status in the scene, i would say it is likely a more impressive feat. the ep as a whole is desolate. expansive spaces filled with cold little beats and vocal washes, exploring in the course of five songs an icescape aesthetic with a sense of place usually reserved for full-length albums. the remixes blend so seamlessly that i didnt even realize they were during my first, casual listen.

john heckle (undisputed king of da real scouse house and fast becoming one of the most prolific young techno producers from the uk) deviates ever so slighty from his trademark sound to paddle his little raft down the mersey and run wild with the wolves. the result is epic and mystic (and 100% organic) and opens a doorway into a mythical world of wicker men, hill figures, druids, witch covens and early 90s sunrises off the m25, when ever-e-thing seemed possible. excellent new artwork as well by godspill, who is also into naked chicks that float and stuff. a deadly combination!

after having blessed the world with >soarex< released on our sublabel irr (international records recordings), including a remix by ada, we would now like to welcome von spar to areal. and this time, the remix comes from no other than techno legend john tejada. with >jon voight<, the hamburg-based artists have created another epic masterpiece in line with their earlier electronic tracks: great emotions, melodies you will never forget... in other words: a track that will send something of a shiver down your spine. tejada, of austrian decent now living in the united states, shows full respect for the original version and comes up with a remix that has proven immensely effective on the dancefloor. it so effective that we still find ourselves awestruck in the studio. well, in the meantime, we have to admit that we went out to one or two parties, but only to find ourselves back in the studio again, still awestruck.

pulse locker refers to the analog method of synching analog modular instruments and drum machines, a method of working john tejada & josh humphrey have embraced to generate their trademark sounds and grooves. preferring to work away from the computer as much as possible, john and josh have adapted a more old school approach to their work, syncing analog gear together, not from a computer, but the way it was synced back in the day. the results are a tight, organic analog sound showcased particularly by the 2nd track >bifur gates<. with a tr-808 as master clock, syncing the modular system, the sound takes you back to the mid 90s era of techno. real 808 beats, punchy bass and an ever so shifting classic chord line will leave you lingering for the days of old. on the a side, >pulse locker< with its big and warm groove, gets things moving with a blend of house and techno. rounding out the ep, >unanimous arc< showcases the mad acid sounds possible on the sh-101 while modular chords elevate the track to a manic pace. >pulse locker< marks the duos third collaboration on palette recordings.
